Telefónica Enhances Web3 and Blockchain Security

Telefónica, a major telecommunication service provider, has joined forces with Chainlink to safeguard against hacks in the Web3 space, including devastating 'SIM Swap' attacks. This collaboration aims to secure smart contracts interfacing with various Application Programmable Interfaces (APIs) on the innovative 'GSMA Open Gateway.'

Web3 Meets Telecom Expertise

The GSMA Open Gateway, backed by numerous mobile operators and industry players, seeks to merge telecom services with the Web3 ecosystem. The partnership underscores the significance of integrating reliable oracle networks for real-time data provision, bolstering the security and functionality of Web3 applications.

Combatting SIM Swap Fraud

One of the initial applications is to prevent 'SIM Swap' fraud, a tactic increasingly prevalent in Web3, where identities are stolen to access financial accounts, as seen in the FTX hack. Telefónica’s introduction of the SIM SWAP API in Brazil represents a move towards enhancing blockchain transaction security by verifying the authenticity of device SIM cards before transactions are processed.
