PlayDapp Crypto Platform Suffers Massive Token Theft

Security Breach Hits PlayDapp

Blockchain analytics company Elliptic has uncovered a heist on the crypto gaming platform PlayDapp. An intruder created 200 million PLA tokens, which had an approximate value of $36.5 million at the time of minting. This breach was believed to originate from compromised security credentials.

Negotiations with the Hacker

PlayDapp quickly responded to the offense by reaching out to the hacker, proposing a $1 million 'white hat reward' for the return of the funds and all related access authorizations if met by February 13. Despite this, the hacker counteracted by minting an additional 1.59 billion PLA tokens, valued around $253.9 million, which they started laundering through various crypto exchanges and accounts.

The Aftermath of the Theft

The total circulating supply of PLA tokens jumped drastically due to this incident, which makes it challenging for the exploiter to monetize at market value and has led to a measurable decline in the token's price. Both the actual and the cryptocurrency community's foreseeable response to the exploitation remain uncertain, with ongoing implications for the value of PLA.
