Litecoin (LTC) has overtaken Bitcoin as the most popular cryptocurrency for payments on the BitPay platform, with a commanding 41.38% of payment transactions, nearly double that of Bitcoin's 21.55%. This shift highlights Litecoin's advantages, such as faster transaction times and lower fees, propelling it to the forefront of crypto payments.

Transaction Efficiency

LTC's efficiency is attributed to its Scrypt algorithm which is less resource-intensive than Bitcoin's SHA-256, enabling quicker transactions and higher throughput. BitPay reports that Litecoin can handle 56 transactions per second, a stark contrast to Bitcoin's seven. Additionally, the cost of Litecoin's transactions averages at just $0.04, compared to Bitcoin's $7.60.

Market Movements

Despite Bitcoin's larger market capitalization, Litecoin has recently mirrored Bitcoin's price changes but in the opposite direction, recording a slight gain of 1.91% and a surge in trading volume, while Bitcoin's price and trading volume have declined, illustrating the dynamic nature of the cryptocurrency market.
