Ethereum Dencun Upgrade Set for Imminent Launch

Ethereum's Next Step

The Ethereum network is poised for a significant technological advancement with the Ethereum Dencun Upgrade, scheduled to go live on the mainnet in approximately a month. After a successful deployment on the Holesky testnet on February 7, the ETH developers have set the date for this upgrade and detailed it in the Geth v1.13.12 release note.

Enhancing Layer 2 Efficiency

Named after the Proto-Danksharding feature, the Dencun Upgrade will introduce blob-carrying transactions to increase block space on Ethereum layer 2s. It is projected to enhance block space by about 2 megabytes, facilitating on-chain transaction data postings and possibly allowing the network to process up to 100,000 Transactions Per Second (TPS) while reducing gas prices.

Preparation for Mainnet

The Dencun Upgrade has already been tested on the Holesky testnet, confirming its readiness for the mainnet activation scheduled at slot 8626176. Developers will soon release the final Ethereum client versions incorporating the Dencun functionality, giving validators a two-week period to adopt the new updates.
