USDC Discontinues on Tron

Stablecoin issuer Circle has announced its decision to end support for the USD Coin (USDC) on the Tron blockchain. The company is initiating a phased transition, immediately ceasing the minting of USDC on Tron. Support for transfers to other blockchains will continue until February 2025 for customer convenience.

Customer Transition and Safety

Circle's decision is rooted in its risk management policy, aiming to maintain USDC's status as a trusted, transparent, and secure regulated digital dollar. Retail users and others outside of Circle's customer base will be able to transfer their USDC holdings on Tron through various exchanges during the transition period.

Stablecoin Market Overview

USDC stands as the world’s second-largest stablecoin by market capitalization, predominantly housed on the Ethereum blockchain. With a smaller proportion of USDC on Tron, Circle's strategy appears to reflect a realignment with core platforms. Despite the announcement, Tron's native TRX token showed stability in the market.
